If you’re in search of a proper pastry or loaf of gluten-free bread in Cambridge’s Central Square, Verveine Cafe & Bakery, the new spot from award-winning pastry chef Monica Glass and James Beard Award-winning chef/restaurateur Ken Oringer will satisfy any craving.

The globally-inspired, 24-seat cafe and bakery takes its cues from cafe cultures all over the world (French brasseries, Japanese kissaten, Italian bars etc.), serving breakfast and lunch (and coffee and snacks) seven days a week. Both chefs share a passion for gluten-free baking, and you can find a wide variety of breads and other goodies made from celiac-friendly flours baked fresh daily, plus they offer made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and other sandwiches, quiches and toasts.

The space centers around a large communal table made from vintage reclaimed wood, with a few café-sized round tables inside, an upcycled church pew as a banquette, and more space on the patio in warmer months. Muted shades of tan and mossy green and avocado mixed with crisp tiling and lots of plants and greenery give the space a comfortable, neighborhood vibe that would make any Parisian feel right at home.
