ButterBird Debuts in Watertown

ButterBird

Happiness is just a chicken sandwich away starting on Saturday, June 29th (changed from Friday, June 28th) when chef Jason Santos throws open the doors of his newest concept, ButterBird. The latest addition to the celebrity chef’s lineup of Boston-area eateries (which includes Buttermilk & Bourbon, Citrus & Salt and Nash Bar & Stage) is an all-day fast casual spot where the bird is the word, and if you’re heading to Watertown’s Arsenal Yards to shop ‘til you drop, it’s the ideal stop for fueling up.

Chicken, chicken, and more chicken is the name of the game here, with an array of signature chicken sandos served on either toasted brioche buns or everything spice biscuits, and you can add an egg or avocado to handhelds like the Super Fly, with shredded lettuce, pimento cheese, vine ripe tomato and chipotle-bourbon ketchup, or The Tweetment made with arugula, chimichurri goat cheese, pickled onion and buffalo sauce. You can get your sammy fried or grilled, and also spice it up with some Nashville hot spice for an extra buck. If you’re more of a tendies type, get 1-, 2-, and 4-piece combos with house-made tater tots, a drink, and Bird Sauce for dipping, and add sides like Flam’n Street Corn “Ribs” with lime crema and cotija cheese, or some Black Truffle Parmesan Fries if you’re a little extra peckish.

ButterBird is also cornering the morning market with a pretty sizable breakfast menu of hot sandwiches like the Click Bait (cage-free over medium egg, griddled Spam, American cheese, crunchy hash browns and Bird Sauce), breakfast burritos made your way, and a selection of house-made tater tot bowls made with cage-free soft chive scrambled eggs. Weekenders can also chow down on a special rotating chicken and waffles plate.

PCA, a Cambridge-based architecture and interior design firm (the creative minds behind Tenderoni’s Fenway and The Shed at Cambridge Crossing), brought the space to life so you can expect vibrant, playful look inside and out. The counter-service dining room has plenty of indoor space to sit and enjoy a quick bite, plus there’s an outside patio for warm weather, or order everything to go for a cluck-tastic feast at home. Check out the menu below and order online here to beat the lines.

ButterBird is open daily from 8:00am until 8:00pm Sundays through Thursdays and 8:00am until 9:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Keep up with their goings on by following along on Instagram, and if you think you can make a better chicken sandwich than Jason Santos, you can enter your recipe in a monthly competition to win some bragging rights and get your name on the menu as the ‘wich of the month; check out more info here.
