Monteverdi Opens at the Royal Sonesta

Escape the heat this week with a cool breeze along the Charles River on the huge patio at Monteverdi, which is now open inside The Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. The newest venture from Seth Greenberg (MistralMooo….Serafina) is up and running at 40 Edward H. Land Boulevard, and if you like fabulous views of the city and elegant Italian-inspired flavors (which includes everyone), you’d better get yourself on the reservation list.

The artfully-designed space was styled by Petra Hausberger of Somerton Park, who’s been a frequent collaborator on Greenberg’s other projects. Comfort and relaxed glamor are the vibe inside and out, including warm, earthy colors, walnut woods, terrazzo porcelain flooring, and vibrant furniture in rich olive and ochre tones. There’s space for 220 people including a main dining room for 54 people and a private dining room that holds 58 with luxe velvet seating, 20 seats at the Calacatta quartz-topped bar, space for 16 in the lounge and 86 seats on the patio where you can take in unobstructed views of the river, Beacon Hill, and the Boston skyline

Chef Christian Ellis (The Cottage Wellesley, Ashmont Grill, Centre Street Sanctuary, Rendezvous) is overseeing the elevated, Italian-inspired menu, which includes fresh pastas like Rigatoni Bolognese and Linguine Vongole, and crisp flatbread pizzas with sausage, ricotta, and local mushrooms. If you’re out and about for some light bites, tuck into a farm-fresh salad or tackle the impressive al fresco raw bar. For those sticking around for dinner there are tasty mains like Bone-In Pork Milanese, Pan Roasted Salmon, and a Grilled Branzino, but the star is certainly a roasted chicken that’s inspired by Ellis’ time at Hamersley’s Bistro, which is topped with a demi glace and served with roasted cipollini and fondant potatoes. Check out the menu below, and save some space for a cocktail or two, or sip your way through the list of wines from Italy, the U.S., France, Australia, and more.

Monteverdi, which is named for Greenberg’s mother, is open for dinner seven days a week (make a reservation here), and there are plans for lunch on weekdays and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Follow them on IG for updates on hours and sneak peeks at the space, and get your patio outfits ready to make the big scene.
