DW French – Bartender

Chef Douglass Williams and the team behind MIDA is proud to launch its newest concept: DW French. Located just a few block from Fenway Park, this modern French Bistro draws inspiration from the streets of Paris as well as famous cuisine from all regions of France. The menu revolves around presenting the classics of French cuisine with approachability and the absolute best quality of ingredients. Think warming and savory French onion soup, perfectly seasoned steak with crispy fries, juicy roasted chicken, a crisp and delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

The goal is to celebrate the rich history of French cuisine – showcasing the food along with an upbeat and fun-loving attitude. D.W. French’s atmosphere marries contemporary aesthetics with design elements reminiscent of a classic French brasserie. The restaurant features a 16-seat bar with an extensive list of cognac, classic cocktails, and French wines. A 30-seat covered patio extends is perfect to take in the energy of Boylston St.

About the Role:
At D.W. French, we want to create hospitality and generosity for ourselves so we can share it with our guests and ultimately, the larger community. The position of Bartender at D.W. French requires working within the D.W. French standards for service and hospitality. Bartenders are on the front line representing the D.W. French brand and are responsible for selling and serving
food and beverages to guests in a kind and professional manner, providing a memorable dining experience, and ensuring repeat business through stylish execution of cocktail, wine, and beer service.

Location: D.W. French (1391 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02215)

Schedule: Open for dinner service 7 nights a week, lunch service Monday to Friday, with brunch service on weekends
Compensation: Hourly plus tips. Benefits available to full-time employees

Responsibilities:

  • Guide guest experiences, from start to finish, taking guest orders, serving food and drink, and enthusiastically representing D.W. French
  • Commit to learning and executing the D.W. French steps of service
  • Understand all D.W. French Beverage menus, preparing cocktails to established recipes
  • Responsible for maintaining the bar space, to include beverage product, fruit, ice, glassware, and overall organization and cleanliness behind the bar
  • Prepare all beverage orders for both bar guests, dining room guests and patio guests
  • Seek meaningful connection with guests in a fast-paced environment
  • Use point of sale system in a timely and consistent manner for all guest orders
  • Provide all elements of D.W. French service materials to our guests, including plateware, silverware, condiments, and anything a guest might need to enjoy their experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of D.W. French food menus, wines by the glass, beer, and cocktails
  • Support of beverage program in full, including batching, cutting fruit, and anything needed for the bar program
  • Support all facets of D.W. French service, including takeout, delivery, patio service, & private events
  • Help pre-bus, maintain, and clean the bar during service, extending to the dining room as needed
  • Assist with opening and closing bar and restaurant duties and re-stocking
  • Determine bar preparation needs based on level of business, change in menu, or special events
  • Store beverage and restaurant supplies in an organized and thoughtful way
  • Keep accurate inventory, reporting on low counts when needed, to include glassware
  • Communicate with management on guest experiences, both positive and negative
  • Develop initiatives to continually create repeat guests, as well as recover guest experiences
  • Maintain a safe and organized work space including service stations, prep stations, and host stand
  • Assist in cleaning all restaurant areas as needed, including sanitizing high touch surfaces
  • Responsibly serve alcohol, requesting IDs and making informed, smart decisions on when to serve guests
  • Assist other areas of the restaurant as necessary

Requirements:

  • 0 – 2+ years of prior restaurant service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of safe cleaning and sanitizing practices in a restaurant environment
  • Positive attitude, sense of urgency, willingness to grow & develop
  • Able to stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift
  • Able to lift and transport items in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to kneel, bend over, lift items above head, work in small or cramped spaces
  • Able to work in areas of extreme high or low temperatures
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
  • TIPS certification, ServSafe Food Handler Training preferred
  • Able to work well in team-oriented environment
