Learn to Be a Butcher

The meat counter doesn’t have to be a big mystery, you just need to learn a thing or two about where all the different cuts come from at a butchery class series at Dear Annie in Cambridge this October. Whether you’re stuck in a steak rut or looking to level up on your meat cutting skills, Shannon Largey of Highland Butcher Shop in Somerville will lead you through all the prep and primals you need to know to become a confident home butcher, starting with the first class on Sunday, October 6th: Nice to Meat You – Intro to Meat Cuts & Anatomy.

The first class runs from 2:30 to 4:00pm and covers the most important basic cuts from beef, pork and lamb and how each piece should be cooked. Largey will give her presentation lecture-style, so no knife skills are required, plus you’ll get a glass of wine from the DA cellar to sip while you’re doing all that learning. Snag tickets here for $40, and check out the schedule of all four classes below if you want to sign up for another session (or all four). Give the Dear Annie folks a call at 617.571.1885 if you have any Qs, and check out more about Highland Butcher Shop, which is one of Boston’s only snout-to-tail butchers, on their website or Instagram.
