Closing Up Shop on the Cape

Chef-owner Weldon Fizell is calling it quits at Regatta of Cotuit on Cape Cod. After six years at the helm of the longtime local favorite, Fizell says it’s time to stop swimming against the tide (see below for his farewell letter). Take a peek through the Regatta’s portfolio or, to pay your respects, drop an email to aftertheregatta@gmail.com.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to announce the closing of the Regatta of Cotuit. This is by far, the most difficult letter I have ever had to write.

For the past six years, it has been my sincerest pleasure to have shared my passion for fabulous food and wine with our loyal customers, friends, and supporters, and I cannot thank you enough for nurturing my vision. I am eternally grateful to everyone that has graced our tables, and for making the Regatta the restaurant that set the standard. I have shared many special occasions with you all, and have developed many loyal friendships which have greatly enhanced my life.

I have also had the distinct pleasure to have worked with the most talented and caring cooks, bartenders, waiters, hosts, bussers, and dishwashers, all of whom have become a part of my family. I thank you all for your hard work, dedication, and for sharing the journey.

I have also had the good fortune to have worked closely with the finest and fairest local purveyors, all of whom are tops in the products and services they offer. I have the greatest respect for you all, and have learned so much from each of you.

People still enjoy great food and impeccable service which is what we always strived to provide. Unfortunately, as a sign of the times, many people continue to struggle, and that trickles down to everyone.

Someone much wiser than me once said, “A person has three choices in life. You can swim against the tide and get exhausted, you can tread water and let the tide sweep you away or you can swim with the tide and let it take you where it wants you to go.” Despite my best efforts, the time has come to swim with the tide.

I wish you all the very best that life has to offer, and thank you all for the wonderful memories until our paths cross again.

Sincerely,
Weldon
